The ancient Greek poet Sappho is portrayed by Lebanese-born Kahlil Gibran, who is best known for his own poetic literary works, including The Prophet. Gibran was also an accomplished visual artist. His work fuses Middle Eastern and American ideals, as well as symbolism and religious mysticism. The Telfair Museum of Art holds the largest collection of Gibran's artwork in North America.
