Introduction

In October 1927, as part of his forty-eight-state triumphal tour in the Spirit of St. Louis, the plane in which he made the first ever nonstop transatlantic flight, Charles Lindbergh returned to Georgia, where four years earlier, he bought his first biplane and conducted his first solo flight. "Lindbergh Day" was an official celebration and the springboard for Atlanta's future dominance as the commercial aviation hub of the South. These photographs document Lindbergh Day in Atlanta and include Lindbergh's arrival at Candler Field (later Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport), his parade through downtown Atlanta to Georgia Tech, and his departure from Candler Field.
