ACT UP members were arrested in 1990 outside of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta while protesting the CDC's response to AIDS in women. At the time, the CDC's definition of AIDS didn't include symptoms that primarily affected women, meaning that many women with AIDS were denied diagnosis, and therefore, treatment.
