By the early 1880s Amicalola Falls had become a tourist destination as interest in natural public recreation areas surged following the founding of Yellowstone National Park in 1872. The Kennesaw Gazette, which described the falls as "one of the prettiest cascades in America," was one of many publications to tout the recreational opportunities at Amicalola Falls.
